Chinese Conversation 5 - Dates

Learn how to talk about Date in Chinese is actually easy, because the way to describe dates in Chinese is simpler than English.

In this lesson you will learn how to talk about dates in Chinese conversation from two basic conversations. For each conversation there is English transcript and then present with Chinese Pinyin and characters.

Considering about beginners, all tones are marked with nubmers to indicate correct tones. From 1-4, they indicate 4 different tones. 1 - first tone, 2 - second tone, 3 - third tone, 4 - fourth tone. and if there is no number, it indicates the "toneless" tone. If you get confuse with Pinyin and Tones, you can check out the guide of learn Chinese Pinyin and learn Chinese Tones.

Scene 1

English Transcript

(In the classroom.)

Li Hong: Xiang Zhang, what are you looking at?

Xiao Zhang: Hello, Teacher Li. I’m having a look at which day the Spring Festival is.

Li Hong: Let me see. This year the Spring Festival is on February 1^st.

Xiao Zhang: 1^st of February? What day is that?

Li Hong: 1^st of February is Saturday.

Xiao Zhang: Then how many days of holiday do we get for the Spring festival?

Li Hong: 7 days, from the 1^st of February to the 7^th of February.

Xiao Jiang: That’s really good! But, Teacher Li, the 8^th of February is Saturday! Do we have classes on Saturday?

Li Hong: Yes, there’ll be classes on the weekend.

李红：小张，   看什么呢？

xiao3 zhang1: li3 lao3 shi1, nin2 hao3. Wo3 zai4 kan4 chun1 jie2 shi4 na3 tian1.

小张：   李老师，   您好。我在看春节是哪天。

Li3 hong2: rang4 wo3 kan4 kan. Jin1 nian2 de chun1 jie2 shi4 er4 yue4 yi1 ri4.

李红：   让我看看。今年的春节是2  月1  日。

Xiao3 zhang1: er4 yue4 yi1 ri4 shi4 xing1 qi1 ji3 a?

小张： 2  月1  日是星期几啊？

Li3 hong2: er4 yue4 yi1 ri4 shi4 xing1 qi1 liu4.

李红： 2  月1  日是星期六。

Xiao3 zhang1: na4 chun1 jie2 fang4 ji3 tian1 jia4 ne?

小张：   那春节放几天假呢？

Li3 hong2: qi1 tian2, cong2 er4 yue4 yi1 ri4 dao4 er4 yue4 qi1 ri4

李红： 7  天，从2  月1  日到2  月7  日。

Xiao3 zhang1: zhen1 bu2 cuo4! Ke3 shi4 li3 lao3 shi1, er4 yue4 ba1 ri4 shi4 xing1 qi1 liu4 a? xing1 qi1 liu4 hai2 shang4 ke4 ma?

小张：   真不错！   可是，   李老师，2  月8  日是星期六啊？星期六还上课吗？

Li3 hong2: shi4 de, zhou1 mo4 ye3 yao4 shang4 ke4

李红：   是的，周末也要上课。

English Transcript   

(In the school grounds.)

A: Xiang zhang, where are you going?

Xiao Zhang: I’m going to buy a suitcase. I’m going back to my home country next Friday.

A: How long are you staying in your home country?

Xiang zhang: I’m going to stay for three weeks. When are you going back?

A: I’m going back on May 20^th.

Xiao zhang: May 20^th? Isn’t that next Friday?

A: Oh, that’s right, I’m all muddled. We can share a taxi to the airport.

Xiao zhang: That’s great!

A: xiao3 zhang1, ni3 yao4 qu4 nar3?

A  ：小张，你要去哪（儿）？

Xiao3 zhang1: wo3 yao4 qu4 mai3 ge4 xiang1 zi2. Wo3 xia4 zhou1 wu3 hui2 guo2.

小张：   我要去买个箱子。我下周五回国。

A: ni3 hui2 guo2 dai1 duo1 chang2 shi2 jian1?

A：   你回国呆多长时间？

Xiao3 zhang1: wo3 yao4 dai1 san1 ge4 xing1 xi1. ni3 shen2 me shi2 hou4 hui2 guo2 qu4?

小张：   我要呆三个星期。你什么时候回国去？

A: wo3 wu3 yue4 er4 shi2 hao4 hui2 guo2.

A：我5  月20  号回国。

Xiao3 zhang1: wu3 yue4 er4 shi2 hao4? na4 bu2 shi4 xia4 zhou1 wu3 ma?

小张： 5  月20  号？那不是下周五吗？

A: o1, dui4 la, wo3 dou1 hu2 tu le. wo3 men ke3 yi3 yi4 qi3 “da3 di1” qu4 ji1 chang3.

A  ：噢，对啦，  我都糊涂了。我们可以一起“打的”去机场。
