Learn Chinese Tones
The tones of Chinese are the tricky parts of
learning this language. Chinese has four basic tones. Different tones would indicate different meanings with
the same character. While you start to learn Chinese Pinyin you should also learn Chinese
Tones.
There are four basic tones and one “toneless” tone
in Chinese. As a beginner, you don’t need to worry about the “toneless” tone. It’s rarely
used.
First
Tone

This tone is even. The voice
produces a flat, somewhat higher pitch than normal.
Second
Tone

This tone is rising. The voice
rises from a normal to a higher pitch.
Third
Tone

This tone is falling and
rising. The voice drops from a normal pitch to a lower pitch and then rises again.
Fourth
Tone

This tone is falling. The
voice falls from a high to a low pitch.
Don’t be discouraged with
these Chinese tones. However, the good news is not every letter in Pinyin has tones. There are only six letters
have tones.

Practice these tones with Pinyin together.
Once you master both Pinyin and Tones you will have no more problems to pronounce any new words. You can
