3 Tips to Learn Chinese Characters Easily
Chinese Characters are appearing at more and
more places nowadays. From road signs to the hottest tattoos you can see the influence of Chinese culture. In
western countries more and more people start to learn Chinese Characters for various reasons. However, to learn how to write this
ancient language is kind of challenging to most western people. And without a teacher, most people don’t know
where to start.
Here are 3 tips to take you step by step to

Learn the basic strokes
When you learn Chinese characters you don’t
straightly start to learn the complex characters, you start with the basic strokes. If you start to learn the
characters immediately you will feel like you are in a maze. When native Chinese start to learn characters
they also start from the basic strokes.
There are basic strokes, dependent strokes
and compound strokes.
The basic strokes
are:

“Ti”: Lift
If you separate a Chinese character into
signal strokes you will find actually it’s very easy to identify all the strokes. Of course there are some

radicals
At this stage you are aware of all the
strokes. There is one more important skill you should learn before you start to try characters. That is the
Chinese radicals. All the characters are formed by radicals and strokes, and radicals are formed by strokes
as well. Chinese characters are hieroglyphics. All the radicals have their own meaning. This is very
different with western languages. When you learn the radicals you will also learn the meaning of the radicals
and it will be very handy at later stage.

Learn the structures to form characters

structures of the characters are must to learn knowledge. There are rules about how to use the radicals to
form characters. Some characters are independent characters which formed by the strokes, and some characters
are compound – component characters which formed by radicals.
