When I say “fast” it doesn’t mean you can learn Chinese in a week or a month, there is no magic. The first thing you should do is about your mind set. Don’t consider Chinese language as a subject. Instead, you should consider it as a tool. I don’t like to say “study Chinese” I prefer to say “learn Chinese”. If Chinese language is a tool then we just need to practice it. The more you practice the more familiar you are with the tool.

How do you practice this tool? The simplest way to practice this tool is to use it. Speak the language with people, having conversations in the language. I’ve had students try to learn Chinese by working with the book only. They worked very hard and I could see them working on their grammar books every day but hardly speaking to anyone. They spent a lot more time than other students to work on their Chinese skills but they progressed slower than other students.

It’s same as learn to swim. You don’t just stay at home and read books about how to swim. Right? You will go to swimming pool to practice. You don’t just learn how to ride bicycle from books. As your Chinese skills improve you need to strength you ability of thinking in Chinese.
